Algonquin is Ontario’s oldest and largest provincial park, a vast tract of wilderness just a couple of hours from Toronto. It provides an enormous playground for lovers of the outdoors, with pine forests, jagged cliffs, trickling streams and quite literally thousands of lakes. Opportunities for walking and canoeing abound, as well as fishing and of course swimming in the crystal clear lakes. It is also well known for its wildlife watching, with moose and wolf populations in the area, though both are generally quite elusive. Other animals you are more likely to see are deer, beaver, otter, mink and a host of birdlife. Whatever your interest this is the kind of place where you can easily lose yourself for a couple of days.

Accommodation within the park is fairly rustic and much more costly than staying in one of the nearby towns – for example Huntsville – however, they do offer a unique opportunity to stay in a beautiful wilderness setting with a host of activities quite literally on your doorstep.
