Towards the end of September and in to October eastern Canada comes alive with the magnificent autumn colours. From the forests and heather which cover the rolling hills to the tidy city parks, fiery yellow, orange and red slowly blazes across the landscape to create the kind of vistas that photographers dream of. Whilst it is the end of the main tourist season, meaning that some of the cultural and historic attractions will be closed, it is the perfect time to visit for a relaxing self-drive itinerary without the hoards of leaf-peepers that New England experiences at this time of year.
Additionally, the Celtic Colours festival takes place on Cape Breton Island around the second week of October each year and features a creative selection of artwork, exhibitions, music and community events in various venues. If you are travelling during the festival you will more than likely encounter some of the festivities.
